"I first met Gov. Dean when he came to MA to talk about his program to negotiate fair drug prices for all VT residents. Affordable prescriptions are extremely important to seniors and to many others. Too few politicians are willing to stand up to the Pharmaceutical Industry's lobby. We need a president with Gov. Dean's courage and commitment to people over profits. "The highest compliment I can pay is that Howard Dean embodies the best qualities of Jimmy Carter. Both understand civil rights and responsibility; both understand what constitutes a just war; both are fighters for mental and physical health care for every human being; both are honorable men we can be proud to represent us in this country and abroad. As Democrats we must remember at least some of the reasons Jimmy Carter lost his bid for reelection: he told the truth and the Democratic party was divided in its support for him. As Democrats we must look at the total candidate; we must not expect perfection or someone who agrees with each view that we may have on every issue. If we do that we'll elect George Bush just the way we elected Ronald Reagan twenty-four years ago."

"It is with pride that I as chair of one small ward in Newton, MA, have the opportunity to endorse the candidacy of the next President of the United States, Howard Dean, the man who will help all of us take back our country."

STATE DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE MEMBER KATE DONAGHUE

From The Nashua Telegraph: Dean picked up endorsements from two present and a former member of the Massachusetts Democratic State Committee, along with a key political activist.

This adds to a volunteer network of a few hundred who connect with a mailing list of 1,600 supporters statewide.

“I am honored that these key Massachusetts Democratic activists have chosen to support my candidacy,” Dean said. “These endorsements clearly show that our campaign is resonating across the nation.

Kate Donaghue of Westborough, Mass., first met Dean, then a Vermont state representative, in 1985 while working on a successful effort to publicly acquire northern Vermont sections of the Long Trail, which runs from eastern Massachusetts to the Canadian border.

Two years later, she walked nine miles up Vermont’s Belvidere Mountain with Dean, then the state’s lieutenant governor.

“I could not picture a lieutenant governor going for a hike of that length with a bunch of tree-huggers. We talked about everything from day-care problems to medical issues,” Donaghue said.

BARNSTABLE TOWN COUNCILOR RICHARD ELRICK

E-Mail: relrick@comcast.net

"I endorse Howard Dean for many reasons. One of the most important was his willingness to be out front in his opposition to the Iraq war. But also because I believe (and hope) his views regarding the failed drug war and need to pursue a public health rather than a criminal justice model for dealing with substance abuse are more 'modern' than Kerry's."

STATE DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE MEMBER ALMA GREENE

E-Mail: afgreene@comcast.net

"I support Howard Dean for several reasons.

  • As a disabled person, I care deeply about health care issues and health care reform.
  • As a woman, I am pro-choice and feel the need to keep abortion safe and legal.
  • As a Cape Codder, I see our environment going to hell in a handbasket -- beach closings, algae plumes, outfall pipes, and high fecal counts really hurt the Cape.
I see Dean as having good solutions on those issues, or I wouldn't be working for him."

Dorothy Keville

From DFA Press Release of July 18:
Dorothy Keville of Quincy, co-chair of Marina Bay Civic Association in Quincy and a delegate to both state and national Democratic conventions, said, “Massachusetts is not a one-candidate state. I strongly believe that Howard Dean is the only candidate who can defeat George W. Bush. He has inspired people who have never been involved in the political process before.”

CONSTITUENCY REPRESENTED:
Marina Bay Civic Association.

FORMER STATE DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE MEMBER ELIZABETH KILCOYNE

From DFA Press Release of July 18:
North Shore Democrat and Ipswich resident Elizabeth Kilcoyne has endorsed Governor Dean. Kilcoyne, a former Massachusetts State Democratic Committee member, said of Dean, “I support him because he has passion and cares about all people. DEMOCRATIC STATE COMMITTEE MEMBER TERRY McGINTY

"Only Howard Dean, an experienced, responsible chief executive with wit, spunk and a common touch will win against the 200 million dollar Bush machine. Because only Dean can fight on his feet and face the curve balls as they come. The American people liked that in Harry Truman and they like it in Howard Dean."

FORMER STATE DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE MEMBER GIBBS MITCHELL

CONSTITUENCY REPRESENTED:

Former chair of the Westborough Democratic Town Committee.

SHIRLEY TOWN COMMITTEE CHAIR JOHN OELFKE

"I strongly support Gov. Howard Dean for president and I urge others who have been disillusioned and inactive to read, listen and get involved again . I have been active in local, state and presidential politics since the early 60s. During the last few years I have found few candidates that touch a cord with me in the way Gov. Dean has today. I find Gov. Dean both exciting in style and correct on most of the issues. He has a broad array of positions I agree with ranging from his stance on "The WAR" to Universal Health Care. He is Right on Education, the environment and Very right on balancing the budget to get the economy BACK to where it was before the Nov 2000 coup. I fully endorse his candidacy."

CONSTITUENCY REPRESENTED:
Shirley Democratic Town Committee Chair.

STATE DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE MEMBER KATHY PASQUINA

From DFA Press Release of July 18:
Kathy Pasquina of West Newbury was first drawn to the Governor by his strong, principled stand on the war in Iraq, and admires his record on health care. “I was impressed by Dean’s success with health care in Vermont,” said Pasquina. “A full 92% of adults in Vermont, and 96% of children, have access to health care thanks to Howard Dean’s policies. His fiscal responsibility ensured that even in down times, the state did not have to cut back on services.”
